About this course
Assistant Instructor
PADI Assistant Instructor is the first part of the Instructor Development Course. It covers the IDC eLearning and the teaching workshops that qualify you to assist instructors and teach some programmes and sessions.
You can later complete the Open Water Scuba Instructor part of the IDC and sit the Instructor Examination.
Course structure
Stage 1
Knowledge development
The PADI System of diver education, learning, risk management, and the role and responsibilities of a PADI Assistant Instructor.
eLearning
Stage 2
Teaching presentations
Classroom and confined-water teaching presentations, with feedback from the Course Director after each one.
Classroom & confined water
Stage 3
Open water teaching
Open-water teaching presentations and skill demonstrations to the standard needed for the rest of the IDC.

- PADI Divemaster (or equivalent)
- Certified diver for at least 6 months
- 60 logged dives
- EFR Primary and Secondary Care training within 24 months
- Medical statement signed by a physician within 12 months
