Golfo Aranci Bay, on Sardinia's north-east coast, is one of the island's richest areas for scuba diving - a stretch of coastline built around the dramatic underwater terrain of Capo Figari, with wall dives, drift dives and reef sites all within a short boat ride of the harbour. Around twenty distinct dive sites are mapped in the immediate area, giving IDC Sardegna's students genuine variety once they move beyond shore-based training. The underwater landscape here is defined by rock slides, boulders and undersea cliffs, home to octopus, groupers, scorpionfish and colourful nudibranchs, with Posidonia sea-grass meadows supporting a healthy, varied ecosystem throughout the bay. A scattering of wrecks and historical remains add extra interest for more experienced divers working towards specialty certifications. For IDC Sardegna's Instructor Development Course candidates and certified divers alike, Golfo Aranci Bay is where classroom and confined-water training turns into real open-water diving - proper depth, current, navigation and marine life to manage, under instructor supervision. Its position close to the Tavolara Marine Protected Area also means some of Sardinia's best-regarded diving is only a short trip further out, for students who want to keep building sea time after certifying.
